Getting Dickied Up.
DB² began with one person and a simple idea: that people shouldn’t have to choose between being comfortable and getting properly dickied up.
Where the name came from
The idea came from wanting casual clothes that looked good enough to go anywhere, without losing the comfort of everyday wear. Something effortless, but still considered.
The name itself came from a saying that had been passed down through the family for years. The men would say they were getting “dickied up”, while the women were getting “dauled up” — a family expression for getting dressed up and making an effort.
There was plenty of debate over what the brand should be called, and how that family history could become part of it. Eventually, the answer was found in the saying itself.
The D and B in DB² come from Dicky Bird and Dolly Bird — turning a familiar family phrase into a name with its own story.
“The men were getting dickied up. The women were getting dauled up.”
A story that came together away from the business table
The original idea came from a family man who had spent years living away. When he returned home to Derry, he shared his story, his experiences and his vision for something different in apparel.
What followed wasn’t a traditional business partnership. It came from family and friendship, from reconnecting after time apart, and from wanting to build something together.
DB² grew from those conversations — not through outside investors or trend-chasing, but through a shared belief in the original idea, and a small range of pieces they would genuinely want to wear themselves.
Started in Derry
DB² began in Derry, shaped by real life and the way people actually dress. From mornings in the office to evenings out, the aim was always to create clothing that could fit naturally into it all.
The result is clothing that sits between casual and dressed up — pieces that feel relaxed, but never look like an afterthought.
At its heart, DB² is about bringing together family, story and style, with a name that carries a little piece of where it all began.
Premium, understated, deliberate
We keep the range small so every piece earns its place. Heavyweight fabrics, a restrained navy-led palette, and the quiet db² monogram — nothing that shouts, everything that lasts.
